Action for Wards 2 & 6
Carmen’s Plan for Better Neighbourhoods
Residents deserve clear answers, follow-through and progress.
At the doors, residents are telling me about parking problems, suspected illegal boarding houses, garbage and overgrown properties. Some have reported the same problems repeatedly and still feel ignored.
I hear your frustration. If elected as your City Councillor, I will pursue these priorities.
The Priorities
What I will pursue
Five commitments, each one something a councillor can actually do.
Address Problem Parking
Push for practical solutions to recurring parking problems, blocked driveways and access concerns. Ask City staff to review locations with repeated complaints and recommend appropriate enforcement or changes.
Tackle Unsafe Rental Properties
Press for coordinated inspections where suspected illegal conversions, unsafe living conditions and property standards concerns overlap. The goal is safe housing for tenants and well-maintained neighbourhoods for everyone.
Keep Our Neighbourhoods Clean
Seek timely action on garbage, overgrown yards and neglected properties. Ask staff to examine why problems recur and what follow-up is needed to achieve lasting compliance.
Get Residents Clear Answers
Seek clearer explanations when complaints are closed: what was inspected, the outcome and the next steps available, while respecting privacy requirements. Where a problem remains unresolved, pursue the appropriate review or escalation.
Report Back on Progress
Provide regular public updates on the neighbourhood issues I am pursuing, what has moved forward and what remains outstanding. Individual residents’ personal information will remain private.
First Steps
How I Will Move This Forward
If elected, my first steps will be to:
- Meet with the relevant City staff to review recurring neighbourhood concerns and existing response processes.
- Request information about service gaps, complaint handling and follow-up.
- Bring forward proposals where changes to policy, service standards or resources are needed.
- Report to residents on the recommendations, council decisions and next steps.
How Will It Be Funded?
I will begin by examining existing services, staffing and budgets with City staff. This plan has not yet been costed, and I will not describe additional services as free.
Before supporting additional spending, I will ask for a clear estimate, funding options and measurable improvements for residents. Any proposed expenditure must demonstrate value for taxpayers.
My Commitment to You
Some changes require council approval, and enforcement must follow proper procedures. My commitment is to bring your concerns forward, press for appropriate action and report honestly on progress.
Wards 2 & 6 are among Brampton’s most beautiful neighbourhoods. Let’s care for them — and for the people who call them home.
